How companies choose locations
In almost all cases a production company will need to visit your location between 1-3
times before actually confirming hire. These visits last only a short time 15-45 mins
and are called "recces". N.B. companies do not pay for recces!
The initial recce may be to take some further photographs from those shown on the
location library to show to the director.
The second recce is likely to be the directors recce and may be one of several the
director makes that day to arrive at a final decision as to which location they will
hire.
The third recce will be the technical recce which is normally the longest as the key
production personnel attend to plan how they are going to achieve all their shots on
schedule.
Contracts & Insurance
Once the decision has been made to hire your location, and you have agreed to accept
the hire, contracts will be drawn up by Film Locations UK Limited between you and the hirer.
These contracts are standard filming agreements which cover : the subject matter,
the areas agreed to be filmed, payment terms, damage and reinstatement, ownership of
copyright, times of filming and confirmation that the hirer has current public liability
insurance to a relevant limit.
Payment
Payment for location hire, unless otherwise previously agreed, is always by cheque on
the morning of the first day of filming / photography & paid directly to you.
This cheque will be for the full amount due for the agreed hours of hire. Where
overtime payments become due invoices for the overtime will be made to the hiring company
by us on your behalf for payment within 14 days from receipt of the invoice.
Preparation & Strike days
Prep days (immediately before filming / photography) & strike days (immediately after
filming / photography days), when necessary, are charged at 50% of the hire rate agreed
for filming /photography days and paid as part of the hire fee.
Both prep & strike days involve far fewer personnel than filming days and generally
are only required for larger productions or productions where rooms need to be
extensively dressed prior to filming / photography.
After the Hire
After filming / photography all hiring companies are contractually obligated to return
your location to the same state and condition it was in at the beginning of the hire.
They must remove all rubbish and materials from the location when they leave. It is
always advisable to be on site when the company are leaving to make quite sure that you are satisfied.
